College students and other locals can't get enough of the amazing, authentic Mexican restaurants in this Detroit neighborhood, just off the highway. La Gloria bakery, too, has gotten a lot of attention for its delicious, inexpensive pastries.

Corktown is a district of Detroit with a largely Irish-American population. Most people know it for Slows, its amazing BBQ restaurant and bar. Corktown also houses the abandoned train station--those "no trespassing" signs can't keep out the more adventurous Detroiters, especially those with an eye for old architecture.

No New Posts BELLE ISLE

Truth be told, Belle Isle has seen better days. But it's a beautiful place, abound with parks and playscapes as far as the island stretches. Not to mention, its enormous central fountain is iconic to the image of Detroit. It's the largest expanse of green to be found in the city, and it's only one bridge away.

You know those dark, cramped rooms full of people standing, jumping, moshing, screaming for their favorite unknown artist, who is literally feet away from the front row? With a huge underground music scene, Detroit is absolutely littered with them. There's never a shortage of shows to see for the eager music fan.
